10/03/18 - Minutes for October meeting

9/23/18 - Nominations for the Parish Advisory Council will be taking place on September 22-23 and September 29-30. Candidates for the Council serve a 2-year term beginning In January 2019. We invite all parishioners to nominate candidates who you believe will be able to serve San Sebastian with energy, creativity and wisdom on matters pertaining to the growth and vitality of the parish. A total of five candidates are needed to complete a full roster of council members. NOMINATION FORMS will be in the pews for the next 2 – weekends. PLEASE PLACE COMPLETED NOMINATION FORMS IN THE DROP BOX IN FRONT OF ONE OF THE CHILDREN'S CHAPELS IN THE CHURCH. We will collect the nomination forms and determine the candidates receiving the highest number of nominations for the final balloting process. Thank you!

Although the Parish Advisory Council expanded its membership by 50% last year, we just barely have enough active members to constitute a quorum.  Many of our members, including myself, will be retiring in November which puts the Council at an important crossroad.  To address this Bobby Freeman is chairing a committee which will develop a nomination process aimed at rebuilding your Parish Council.  Every parishioner will be able to nominate any other parishioner (including themselves) to serve on the Council.  Although we are neither an administrative group nor a policy making body, our role as defined by the second Vatican Council is to investigate, research and understand pastoral issues. Subsequently, our job is to recommend possible paths forward to our pastor.  from Charlie Judice, Parish Advisory Council President

July 19, 2018 - Message from Charlie Judice, President  -  "Although the Parish Advisory Council expanded its membership by 50% last year, we just barely have enough active members to constitute a quorum. On April 3, 2018 at 7PM in the Church Hall,  SGT Jim Priester of the St. Johns County Sherrif's office will lead a discussion on steps that should be taken and the plans that need to be developed to minimize loss of life in the event that a violent intruder gained access to our church during a service. Please pass this announcement to those in your ministry and anyone else interested so that we have the greatest number of parishioners aware of how to act if the unthinkable were to happen here. We will also be distributing a first draft of an Emergency Action Plan that covers the active shooter situation as well as other emergencies with which greeters, ushers, lectors, and deacons might have to respond. Charlie Judice, Parish Advisory Council

On February 19, 2018 the Parish Advisory Council will be hosting a forum on "Why are millennials leaving the Church".  Recent studies by Pew Research estimate only 7% of Catholics born in the 80's and 90's continue to practice our Faith.  We need to understand why and start looking for solutions.  As stewards of the Church, it is our joint responsibility. This will be held in the church from 6pm - 9pm. Charlie Judice, President Parish Advisory Council

December 2017 - The Parish Advisory Council recognized Mary Horn with its annual "Ministry Leadership Award" on December 1 at the new parishioner's dinner.   Mary Horn recently served as the president of the Ladies Guild and has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities of perseverance, organizational motivation, and a sincere and effective openness to working with multiple ministries.  We congratulate Mary on her well deserved recognition. Charlie Judice, President PAC

November 2017 - The Parish Advisory Council is happy to announce three new members: Jenene Karamon, Jose Rojas, and Yvette Von Loh each of whom will serve a two year term. We also want to thank our retiring Council members: Linda Curran, Tom Clark, Frank Sette, and Perla Cosme for their many years of service on the Council and to the parish.  We still have two vacant seats; parishioners interested in serving on the Council should contact Charlie Judice @ 904-827-1423.

In 2018 the Parish Advisory Council will set its priority on Project Welcome Home: an initiative to welcome back parishioners of all ages who have left the parish for any reason or no longer identify as being Catholics or practice their faith.  You are part of our family, we miss you, and we want you to "Come Back Home".  Charlie Judice, PAC President

Parish Advisory Council meets the first Tuesday of every other month at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. All parishioners are invited to attend.
